A GREAT EMERGENCY SUB PLAN
This simple plan keeps the students engaged and accountable when you're away.
(1) Assign the video with worksheet - 45 min.
(2) After the video, students fill in any blanks by working together as a group - 5 min.
(3) Assign the quiz at the end of the class - 10 min - or the next day if your class periods are too short to add in the quiz.

THE VIDEO WORKSHEET (Editable)
Not all video worksheets are made equal! Too many poorly designed video worksheets contain questions that do not give students enough time to record their answers before the next question comes, or they have the opposite problem of having long stretches of time in between questions where students become disengaged. I have designed my questions so that they occur at a reasonable pace to keep the students constantly engaged but not scrambling to record information. To that end I use a lot of fill in the blank questions to help students record data quickly and intersperse that with very brief short answer questions for more thinking. Since the worksheet is editable, you can customize the worksheet by rewording, adding or removing questions to make it more appropriate for your classes.
THE VIDEO QUIZ (Editable)
The 20 Mark (1 page) Video Quiz comes with an easy to mark Answer Key. The quiz is not meant to be overly challenging. It is meant to simply assess how much students have listened, understood and retained. It is a snap to mark because the questions all come in the form of matching questions and either fill in the blanks or true or false. The quiz can be given out after showing the video or on the following day. This is a great incentive for students to pay attention during the video. For students who need more support, you can make the quiz "open book" by allowing them to refer to their video worksheet during the quiz. You can choose to mark the quiz or not for an evaluation. You can also easily customize the quiz by rewording, adding or removing questions because it is editable.
