Warning: Minor SPOILERS for Nosferatu!
Nosferatu tells the tale of a young woman who falls victim to a vampire who is utterly infatuated with her. The 2024 movie is a remake of the 1922 silent film of the same name by director F. W. Murnau. Robert Eggers reimagines his own version of the story as both writer and director, with Bill Skarsgård brilliantly stepping into the shoes of Count Orlok.
Lily-Rose Depp stars as Ellen, with Emma Corrin taking on the role of her friend Anna. When Ellen's husband, Thomas (Nicholas Hoult) is sent on a work trip, she goes to stay with Anna and her husband, Friedrich (Aaron Taylor-Johnson). Before long, night terrors take her over and disrupt the entire town. Nosferatu comes to theaters on December 25.

ScreenRant interviewed Lily-Rose Depp and Emma Corrin, who revealed what it was like to work opposite Bill Skarsgård since he disappeared into his character, Count Orlok. Corrin detailed the unfortunate fate of their character, Anna, while Depp discussed the importance of the physicality of her role. Depp also spoke about the dynamic of the two couples in Nosferatu.
Bill Skarsgård Brings Humanity To Count Orlok In Nosferatu

ScreenRant: What is it like playing opposite Bill Skarsgård as Count Orlok?
Lily-Rose Depp: It was insane. I mean, he delivers such an incredible performance in this movie and really just completely disappears into this character, which he is so amazing at doing in general. And he was not only so terrifying, but he imbued this character with so much ancient, dead, mummified humanity in a way. Like, you feel the human that once was there, I think, in his performance.
That's what I think makes it so scary, is that there is a level of humanity to it. He's not just a made-up monster. He feels like a real being brought back from the dead that could exist. He did such an incredible job in this film. It was genuinely terrifying.
Emma Corrin: You kind of end up empathizing with him a bit. I did in the last scene, I don't know, I'm like, I feel bad for him. I need to work some stuff out.
Lily-Rose Depp Says The Movements Of Her Character Are Really Important
"We wanted to make sure that all of those moments not only looked how they should on camera, but also that they were giving the viewer a part of her storytelling."
ScreenRant: Lily-Rose, the physicality of your role in this film is incredibly haunting. Can you talk about the preparation that goes into that?
Lily-Rose Depp: We worked with an amazing movement coach who helped me so much. Her name's Maria-Gabrielle Roti. She helped me tremendously to choreograph all of those moments and also make sure that we were reading them in a part of her artwork, because it's the external manifestation of the internal war and pain that she's going through.
So we wanted to make sure that all of those moments not only looked how they should on camera, but also that they were giving the viewer a part of her storytelling. That they were telling the viewer something about what she's going through in that moment. That was really important.

ScreenRant: What was your reaction when you first read about Anna's death, and how it was going to happen?
Emma Corrin: I remember, first of all, I texted Rob [Eggers] and asked if the rats were going to be real or CGI. And he sent a very short text back being like, well, obviously real. I'm like, I'm so sorry I asked.
I was, I mean, obviously massively felt for Anna, but also, I thought, wow, what a great arc. I love the way that Rob, even with the smaller characters, there is nothing that goes unthought about. He's very considerate. He considers characters from all angles.
And yeah, I love playing her. I love the complexity of it, and her friendship with Ellen and how she's torn between her religious belief and this unconditional friendship, and the other choice she's faced with, and all the more tragic when she dies.
ScreenRant: What was that experience like?
Emma Corrin: It's kind of what you think it would be like. Incredibly unpleasant, but also the things you do for Robert Eggers.

ScreenRant: Can you talk about working with Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Nicholas Hoult to create the on-screen chemistry, and the dynamic of the two couples?
Lily-Rose Depp: I think those two couples are so interesting. Emma was speaking about this in an interview earlier, but it's like the light and the dark. They have to be there because those two couples almost serve as mirrors to each other in the same way that our characters do and Nick and Aaron's characters do.
I think that Anna looks at Ellen and thinks, this is the kind of woman that I should be. And I think that Thomas also looks at Friedrich and thinks, this is the kind of man that I want to be. You know what I mean?
I think that they are kind of a symbol of the perfect family, the perfect relationship. All of these things that are very aspirational, I think, to Ellen and Thomas. But of course, it's not something so perfect. It has to have a tragic end.
